Eastern FrontCENTRAL SECTORThe 11th Guards and 5th Guards Tank Armies meet up at Borisov, effectively isolating a large part of the 4th Army east of the Berezina as its line of retreat is severed. With pressure increasing against the bridgehead, the Germans blow the Borisov bridges and begin to fall back. Having been decisively defeated to the south, Vormann's 9th Army is make responsible for the defense of Minsk. No additional forces are made available. The 1st Belorussian Front destroys the Germans north of Bobruisk. A force of 20,000 breaks out and reaches the 12th Panzer Division at Marina Gorki but the remainder, almost 50,000, are lost. THE OPPOSING FORCESAcross the Eastern Front the Germans deploy 4,470 tanks and 1,710 aircraft against 11,600 Soviet tanks and 11,800 aircraft. German divisional strength stands at 18 panzer, 9 panzer grenadier and 133 infantry divisions. |
