The sinking of U-288 on April 3, 1944 at the hands of aircraft from HMS Activity and HMS Tracker. Sunk April 3, 1944 in the Barents Sea south-east of Bear Island, Norway, in position 73.44N, 27.12E, by depth charges and rockets by Swordfish (819 Squadron) and Avenger / Wildcat (846 Squadron) of the British escort carriers HMS Activity (819 Squadron) and HMS Tracker (846 Squadron). 49 dead (all hands lost).
