KWAJALEIN ATOLL
The 184th RCT, in the southern part of the atoll, continues the difficult mop-up of the enemy along the lagoon shore, completing this as far as Green Beach 4 by 1435. The 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry, attacks through the 2nd Battalion of the 184th and the 3rd Battalion of the 32nd toward the end of the island, arriving at Nate Road in a highly disorganized state. Here the 2nd Battalion, 32nd Infantry, passes through the 1st Battalion to complete the capture of the island. Advance elements reach Nero Point, at the tip of the island by 1515, but organized resistance continues until 1920. Gen Corlett announces the capture of Kwajalein Island to Adm Turner at 1610. A considerable number of Japanese and Koreans surrender during the day.
The 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry, continues their northward attack on Burton, this time meeting the main opposition on the right, in the zone of Company A. At 1130, the 3rd Battalion attacks through the 1st Battalion. Company K reaches the northeastern corner of the island at 1210 and Burton is completely secured by 1337.
Troops of the 2nd Battalion, 17th Infantry, secure Burnet (no known native name) and Blakenship (Loi), north of Burton, capturing about 40 natives on Burnet and subduing more than 20 Japanese and Koreans on Blakenship.
