The Volturno River, October 12-16, 1943: A 25-pdr self-propelled gun at an airfield near Grazzanise fires a round during the night barrage in preparation for the crossing of the Volturno by assault troops. The gun is mounted on the wreckage of a German aircraft to obtain more elevation.
