Sicily

Early in morning Gen Han Hube and Gen Walter Fries board a ferry and leave, followed a little later by the last rear guard, a battle group of 29th Panzer Engineer Battalion, with elements of 2nd Battalion, Hermann Göring Panzer Regiment.

The Sicily Campaign ends with the official entry of the 7th RCT, 3rd Division, into Messina at 10:00am. The Americans are joined there a little later by the British. The fall of Sicily permits the stepped-up air operations against the next objective, Italy.
