Sicily

The Canadian assault that was planned was unnecessary as the 48th Highlander sends a patrol toward Regalbuto only to find it deserted. The Germans once again pulled out right before a major Allied attack. The advance continues eastward.

The 78th Division reaches the outskirts of Centuripe but Col Heilmann's 3rd Parachute Regiment makes a stand and the British are unable to clear the town completely the rest of the day. During the night at 9:00pm Col Paul Conrath orders Heilmann to withraw to their next defensive position.

In US 7th Army area, mines and demolitions are slowing the advance of II Corps' 3rd Division along the coastal road. There are minor American attacks near Troina by the US 1st Division with almost no gains. Gen Allen prepares for another all-out attack the next day.
