Sicily

The port of Palermo is operating at 30 percent of capacity after only 8 days since its capture. Coastal cargo vessel begin arriving at Palermo.

In the II Corps area, the 45th Division, recrossing the Tusa River, pushes a little closer to Sam Stefano in the coastal sector. The 1st Division takes Nicosia.

Agira falls to the 1st Candadian Division. Lt-Col Karl Ens's 104th Panzer Grenadier Regiment withdraws north of the Salso River where it joins forces with Group Fullriede near Gagliano to join battle with the Americans. The Canadians continue to advance eastward along Highway 121 into the zone of the Hermann Göring Panzer Division. Col Paul Conrath orders the Hermann Göring Panzer Engineer Battalion to take over defense of Regalbuto, augmented with 8 panzers, an artillery battery, an infantry company of the 3rd Parachute Regiment and a few rocket launchers. The Canadians advance to within a mile of the town.

Gen Alexander moves his headquarter to Sicily.
