What is considered to be the greatest and largest tank battle of WWII took place on July 12, 1943. A total of 1,500 tanks battled over Prokhorovka, 50 miles to the south of Kursk. Here German commanders launched their most fierce offensive and last hope of breaking through the Russian lines.
