Between June 2, 1943, when the first train carrying German prisoners arrived at the Frisco Railroad Depot in Aliceville, Alabama, and its closing in September 1945, the Aliceville Prisoner of War camp was home to over 6,000 German prisoners of war (POWs). Many of the first arrivals were members of Field Marshal Erwin Rommel’s famed Afrika Korps.
