Having been encircled for more than a month, with Stavka approval Rokossovsky offers 6th Army the opportunity to surrender. The proposal promises proper treatment of the wounded and prisoners. If the offer is rejected the Soviets warn, they will destroy 6th Army and the responsibility for further bloodshed will rest with Paulus. Paulus immediately inforrms Hitler but is ordered to reject it.
