Crewmen abandon ship on board the US aircraft carrier USS Lexington (CV-2) after the carrier was hit by Japanese torpedoes and bombs during the Battle of the Coral Sea, on May 8, 1942. Note the destroyer alongside taking on survivors. The destroyer USS Phelps (DD-360) eventually torpedoed the stricken carrier and sank her.
