Eastern FrontNORTHERN SECTORIn line with Stalin's plan, the Volkhov Front continues making probing attacks, searching for weaknesses in the German defenses before the main offensive is launched. CENTRAL SECTORThe month-long Soviet offensive in the center has cost the Red Army heavily. The West Front has lost 102,000 killed and missing and 160,000 wounded, the Kalinin Front 27,000 ant 55,000 respectively, the Southwest Front's 3rd and 13th Armies 10,000 killed and 12,000 wounded and the Bryansk Front 1,300 killed and 4,200 wounded. Equipment losses have also been heavy, the fronts losing 429 tanks, 13,000 artillery pieces and 140 aircraft. SOUTHERN SECTORThe 38th Army fights its way slowly toward Belgorod, while the 21st and 40th Armies press their attacks against the German defenses before Kharkov. |
