German Soldier Conducting Reconnaissance
A German soldier under cover conducts a visual reconnaissance of his unit’s route to the high ground they are to occupy in Crimea. He carries standard infantryman’s equipment to include support straps ('Y' 0straps), gasmask case with his gas sheet pouch strapped to it, rolled Zeltbahn camouflage shelter-quarter, field flash (water bottle), and mess kit, 7.92mm Mauser Kar98k carbine, a Patronenkasten 41 (cartridge case M1941) for an MG 34 machine-gun.
