Stampede Victims Caused by Panic

Stampede Victims Caused by Panic

The victims of a stampede caused by a panic during a Japanese air raid lie on a flight of stairs in Chongqing, 5 June 1941.

One of the worst bombings came on this day, and lasted more than three hours. More than 2,500 Chongqing residents fled to shelter in one of the town center’s tunnels, the Jiaochangkou Tunnel. There they suffocated as they waited for the end of the assault.
