Britain Engaged in Another War

Britain Engaged in Another War
In September 2, 1940, Britain was engaged in another war. Winston Churchill turned to the United States for military assistance. Although the United States claimed to be a neutral nation before the start of World War 2, America decided to form an agreement with the British government. In the Destroyer for Bases Deal, the United States would transport 50 destroyers remaining from World War 1 to Britain in exchange for 8 naval bases. The 8 naval bases were located in Bermuda and the Caribbean. The British agreed to give the United States access to the bases for 99 years. American action demonstrated America’s shift from an isolationist to an interventionist.
