Battle of the Atlantic

U-21 sinks the Danish steamer Vidar (1353t) in the North Sea with the loss of 16 of her crew. 18 of her crew are rescued.

Britain, Preparations

A secret British military mission to Italy orders 300 Caproni Re-2000 fighters. Germany vetoes this deal in April. An attempt to obtain the planes through Portugese intermediaries fails in June.

Finland - Winter War

Day 63

In northern Finland the Finns again hold off a massive Soviet assault at Saija in the Kuhmo sector. The Finns also defeat a Russian ski battalion at Silmälampi and Löytövaara. The Russians lose 160 men and a large supply of automatic weapons. On Lake Ladoga the Russians attack several islands in the lake.

The Russians bomb Rovaniemi killing 5. To this point the Russians have conducted 643 air raids over Finland dropping over 20,000 bombs on a total of 207 different localities.
