- U-51 sinks the Swedish steamer Gothia (1640t) 45 miles north west of St Kilda with the loss of 12 crewmen.
- U-61 sinks the Norwegian steamer Sydvold (2434t) in the North Sea with the loss of 5 of her crew. 19 survivors are rescued by the Norwegian steamer Rona.
- The Norwegian steamer Segovia (1387t) leaves England for Norway and is never heard from again. It is presumed she was a victim of U-55 with no survivors.

Finland - Winter WarDay 54 On the Ladoga Karelia the Soviet offensive continues at Kollaa on the Aittojoki River and at Ilomantsi. The Lapland Group is turned down in its request to continue their advance to Märkäjärvi. They are ordered to consolidate the ground already taken.
Soviet bombers hit Sortavala in the Ladoga Karelia and Ivalo in Lapland.
